$26,152,688! Rockin’ Past the Goal to Make Lasting Change

Community Celebration “I have been humbled by the passion and commitment of people from all walks of life to the mission of United Way,” said Ron Autrey, Campaign Chair and President and Chief Operating Officer, Miller Electric Company, as he announced the $26,152,688 total raised for the 2007 Campaign, a 4.6% increase over the 2006 campaign.

Autrey told the audience, “United Way’s community supporters share a common vision of making positive, lasting change for children and families of Northeast Florida,” Autrey said. “With the exceptional result of this year’s campaign success, we will help better prepare children for school, keep students on track for graduation, and older adults will have the services they need to remain independent.”

Autrey, along with Board of Trustees Chair, Kevin Twomey and Connie Hodges, President of United Way of Northeast Florida, kicked off the event with an awards ceremony, recognizing outstanding individuals and companies for their workplace giving campaigns. The event also paid tribute to hundreds of volunteers and business partners who were pivotal to the tremendous success of the 2007 campaign. (See attached list of Community Champion Award Winners)

The Community Care Challenge, a matching gift program, also contributed greatly to the campaign’s growth. Launched in 2003, the program is designed to inspire individual donors to become leadership givers (gifts of $1,000 or more) and to boost corporate giving by matching increases in corporate donations. Sponsors of the challenge include Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Coggin Automotive Group, Regency Centers, The Haskell Company, and Baptist Health.

“Our work to help people change their lives is improving our community and would not be possible without the investments from United Way supporters,” said Connie Hodges, President, United Way of Northeast Florida.

“It’s been an honor to lead this year’s campaign effort,” Autrey said. “I am proud of the success that we’ve created for our community. Together, these individuals and businesses alike are helping bring about lasting change.”

More than 240 United Way Circle of Honor recipients were also recognized during the event. They are categorized into one of four levels – Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum. These organizations’ giving campaigns are the core of United Way’s fundraising efforts.

With the 2007 campaign complete, Ron Autrey is now passing the torch to 2008 Chair Marty Lanahan, Executive Vice President of Regions Bank.
