United Way of Northeast Florida President Connie Hodges Receives Humanitarian Award

Since 1998 the Tocqueville Society has had a 268% increase in total dollars raised and a 198% increase in membership. During this time, United Way secured the first million dollar gifts (2) from Delores and Wayne Weaver to create and sustain the Weaver Challenge; which has leveraged over $3 million for First Coast children, families, and individuals.

Connie established and implemented the Touchstone Program. It is a system, built by and for United Way employees, that enables them to recognize the value of each individual, their contribution to the workplace and to the community.

Under Connie's leadership United Way has increased revenues for human services by 65% raising $24.1 million in 2005.

More than 500 people were in attendance at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront as the Urban League recognized individuals and corporations that have excelled in the areas of diversity and equal opportunity in Northeast Florida.

Equal Opportunity Awards were presented to the following individuals: John Edwards, Executive Director of the Northeast Florida Community Action Agency, and Glenda Washington, Jacksonville Regional Planning Council. The Clanzel T. Brown Award was presented to Elizabeth Means of Shands Jacksonville. Corporations that were recognized included Convergys and Wachovia.
