This year's theme, Lend a Hand, conveys the message that one person alone cannot solve the
problems faced by communities across the nation. In keeping with that theme, United Way of Northeast
Florida and the Jacksonville Jaguars workshop - "You Can... Succeed, Achieve and Accomplish" Life Skills
Workshop - focused on students from high schools served by United Way's Full Service Schools program.
This initiative provides numerous services to students and their families, including mental health
counseling, family counseling, and tutoring. The workshop gave students from Forrest, Terry Parker, and Englewood High Schools the
opportunity to get expert coaching on resume writing and job training, while area professionals were able to give them pointers
on the life and social skills needed to succeed.
"United Way is pleased to be part of this exciting partnership with the NFL and locally the Jacksonville
Jaguars," said Connie Hodges, president of United Way of Northeast Florida. "Hometown Huddle resonates
because it's focused on something every one of us can do - give back to our local community. It's only if
we work together to make a collective impact that we will be able to make positive, lasting change in
the lives of First Coast residents."
Now in its 33rd year, the NFL and United Way partnership is the
most visible and longest running charitable collaboration of its kind. For more than three decades,
the relationship has been an example of the tangible good that can be leveraged when two household
icons are harnessed into a powerful vehicle for real change in our communities.
