High Fives All Around

In today's world, handprints signify good things: friendship, family, childhood, hard work, and community. The handprint also symbolizes the High Five-a sign that we're on the same team or of a common mind.
Last Wednesday, from tiny handprints to large ones, Jacksonville citizens literally gave their personal High Fives to create a unique art mural in Hemming Plaza at Downtown Vision's Art Walk. Adults, youth, and children of all ages participated by making their mark with their brightly colored handprints on United Way's 20-foot-wide Give 5 mural representing the Give 5 Campaign. read more |
United Way Celebrates 85th Anniversary and Kicks Off 2009 Community Campaign

On September 10, United Way of Northeast Florida kicked off its 2009 Community Campaign at Hemming Plaza in downtown Jacksonville. With nearly 400 guests in attendance, United Way’s 2009 Campaign Cabinet, comprised of past and future campaign leadership as well as key community volunteers, rallied the audience and paid tribute to the organization’s 85-year heritage at the site of its founding in 1924.

WILL Volunteers Clean Up for Spring

On Saturday, May 30, United Way's Women in Local Leadership (WILL) gathered more than forty members and their families to take part in a volunteer day at three of United Way's Success By 6 early education centers. Centers included St. Catherine's Episcopal Preschool, Methodist Children's Village and Happy Acres Ranch.

United Way of Northeast Florida received top honors at the national United Way of America Staff Leaders Conference in Detroit, Michigan on May 12, for its dropout prevention initiative, Achievers For Life (AFL). Achievers For Life was one of only three programs nationwide selected out of hundreds of entries submitted from United Ways across the country. read more |
United Way Celebrates Community Champions and Leadership Partners

"There were many in our community, whose generosity and passion went above and beyond. I'm grateful for the tremendous companies, organizations, and individuals that supported this year's United Way campaign," said Marty Lanahan, 2008 Campaign Chair.
At an April 16th breakfast meeting, United Way announced that it raised $24,830,590, during the 2008 campaign. With 250 guests gathered, United Way leaders congratulated longstanding community partners, award-winning campaigns, and United Way supporters for their hard work, resolve, and commitment.

In this tough economy, United Way of Northeast Florida is getting creative in raising money. With state budget cuts, downsizings, layoffs, mergers, and foreclosures, United Way’s annual campaign stands at $800,000 less than last year. At the same time, there is an ever-growing need for services among First Coast children, families and individuals. With the economy’s decline, funds to provide crucial assistance are decreasing.
