“It’s a good thing I came
in today,” declared
Marcus Moton, 23, an
electrician currently
doing temp work. “I had
money coming back from
the last couple of years
that I didn’t even know about!” Grinning
as he cradled his 3-month old daughter,
Shamaryiah, in his arms, Moton said he
would put to very good use the tax refund
and money he was going to receive through
the new Economic Stimulus Package. “This
will help a lot,” he said. “I want to make a
better future for my little girl.”
Chris Kemp thought he would follow his
normal routine of paying $160 to one of the
many tax preparation companies that open
their doors each spring. “I couldn’t afford it
and kept putting off doing my taxes. Now,
I’m glad I did,” he said, gratefully handing
his tax forms to Regina Suggs of HabiJax,
one of several VITA (Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance) Volunteers at the front-line
greeters table on Tax Blitz Day. Kemp, a
plumber with David Gray Plumbing, said
he’d read about the Real$ense Tax Blitz in
the newspaper.
Filing her income tax is a real challenge
for single mom Tammy Sutton of West
Jacksonville. With the daily demands of five
children, the youngest of whom suffers from
chronic asthma, her work schedule as a
grocery store cashier has suffered recently
and she said just getting to a tax site took
some doing. “This turned out to be a very
good day for me,” said Sutton, smiling as
she and her two youngest children, Jihad, 9,
and Der’resha, 3, got ready to leave the busy
WorkSource office with her completed tax
return in hand.
