Wolfson High School Seniors Tierra Collier, 17, and Randy
Mixson, 18, participated as special volunteers at the
Real$ense Tax Blitz Day. As students enrolled in the high
school’s specialized Financial Planning magnet course, a
dual enrollment program where they can earn college as
well as high school credits, Tierra and Randy
had the opportunity this tax season to
shadow Real$ense staff, volunteers and many
of their community partners, including Wachovia partner, Michelle Braun,
Community Chair for Real$ense and a mentor with the program, and Gloria
Sutton, Media Relations Specialist for the local IRS Office, both of whom
were on hand to help with Tax Blitz Day.
“We’ve learned a lot from Real$ense and all of its community partners about working with
people in the real world,” said Tierra, as she and Randy spoke with waiting clients in an
attempt to interest them in enrolling in other Real$ense partner services.
And it is in the real world – on Tax Blitz Day and every day – that WorkSource, Real$ense,
AARP Tax Aide, the IRS, and their many community partners, coordinate efforts to improve
the economic future of Jacksonville’s citizens.
“It’s a lot of teamwork,” said Faron Miles,WorkSource at Gateway Center Director. “We
already have a passion for helping connect workers with jobs and this is just one more way
to help. The goal of Real$ense – to help low-to-moderate income people put money back in
their pockets and keep it there – that’s our goal, too. It’s all about teamwork.”
