RealSense is proud to commend one volunteer, Putnam County
native Steve O’Neal, who went above and beyond the call of
duty for the people in his community as a tax preparer in the
new Putnam County Heart of Putnam site.
In February Heart of Putnam administrator Kathy Thomas
was out for a week for her father’s funeral. Steve assumed
her responsibilities. The new RealSense Prosperity Campaign
volunteer tax site had just opened and was experiencing startup
glitches that included electronic transmission issues. Steve
spent many hours on resolving issues so that clients wouldn’t
have to wait for their refunds.

The RealSense Prosperity Campaign is making community inroads with a mobile tax
team that takes free tax preparation to local employers and community organizations.
This year the mobile tax team has already taken its free tax
preparation services to several organizations, including Baptist
Medical Center, the City of Jacksonville, Catholic Charities, Clay
County Utilities, Fifth Third Bank (utilizing the bank’s eBus or
electronic bus that was outfitted with computers), Hogan’s Creek
(a Jacksonville Housing Authority senior housing residence), and
Madison Manor (an apartment complex for people 45 and older).

The RealSense Prosperity
Campaign announces that
RealSense and its long-time partner,
WorkSource, were selected as a model
workforce partnership to present during
a “webinar” or national, web-based
seminar hosted by U.S. Department of
Labor and the National Disability Institute
in February.
The webinar, attended by about 300
people across the country, highlighted
working relationships with workforce and
community prosperity organizations that
help those who are low income and/or
disabled become more prosperous.
“Because we work together to help
those who are low income and those with
disabilities get extra money in their hands,
it’s a perfect blend of our core missions,”
said Kaye Schmitz, RealSense
Prosperity Campaign Executive
Director, who presented the RealSense
portion of the material on the webinar.
“Jacksonville was one of three cities in
the country to present the highlights of
their coalitions and partnerships with
Workforce organizations.” The other
coalitions were in Milwaukee, Wisconsin,
and Detroit, Michigan.
