Sherwood Smith Award
Sherwood H. Smith’s commitment to philanthropy and our community was well known throughout Northeast Florida. As Executive Director of the Jacksonville Community Chest and State Director and Commissioner of the Florida Department of Public Welfare, he demonstrated his desire to make a difference in countless ways. Our community’s confidence in United Way was shaped by his presence in our history.

The Sherwood H. Smith Children’s Champion Awards

Awards are in two categories:
Category 1 - Service: An individual who has demonstrated exemplary service in working directly with children and youth.
Category 2 - Advocacy: A community advocate whose efforts have resulted in positive change in policies or conditions that impact the well-being of children and youth in Northeast Florida.

Nomination forms are available to United Way certified agencies and to our partners working to improve the lives of young people in our community. A selection committee will review the nominations and select a deserving recipient in each category. The awards of $1,000 each will be presented at United Way’s Annual Celebration Event.
